Franz Jägerstätter was the only man in Sankt Radegund to refuse military service. His neighbours called him a fool; his church urged compliance; his own bishop told him his duty was to the state. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007. His wife Franziska lived until 2013, receiving the Papal honour in his name.
