Escape networks funnelling Jews and Allied airmen through the Netherlands were frequently betrayed. The Dutch resistance was riddled with informers, and the Germans ran sophisticated counter-intelligence operations. Many escape groups were secretly run by the Germans — the Englandspiel operation captured 54 SOE agents this way.
