The Battle of Midway (June 4-7, 1942) was decided largely by luck and intelligence. US codebreakers had identified Midway as the target. Three squadrons of dive bombers struck simultaneously — SBD Dauntlesses sank Akagi, Kaga, and Soryu in five minutes. A fourth carrier, Hiryu, was sunk that afternoon.
