The Auschwitz Report — Slovakia
After escaping, Vrba and Wetzler reach Jewish community leaders in Žilina and deliver their detailed report — a document that eventually reaches Allied governments and the Vatican.
The report was delivered to Jewish community leaders in Žilina and Bratislava in late April 1944. A condensed version reached the World Jewish Congress in June 1944. US Secretary of the Treasury Morgenthau pushed for action, and the report contributed to the halt of Hungarian Jewish deportations in early July 1944. Despite the evidence, the Auschwitz rail lines were never bombed.
