The Bridge on the River Kwai — Thailand
The completed bridge — and the Allied commando mission to destroy it. The film's climax on and around the actual bridge.
The real bridge at Kanchanaburi was bombed by Allied aircraft in 1945 and rebuilt after the war. The square-span sections are original; the curved spans are post-war replacements. The film's moral ambiguity — British POWs taking pride in building a bridge that aids the enemy — was condemned as unrealistic by actual Burma Railway survivors.
