Block 19 of Sachsenhausen — where 142 Jewish prisoners run Operation Bernhard, the largest counterfeiting operation in history.
Operation Bernhard produced £132 million in forged British pounds — so convincing the Bank of England could not reliably detect them. The goal was to flood Britain with counterfeit currency and destabilise the economy. The prisoners were given relatively good conditions and faced execution if production failed — or when the war ended.
