To End All Wars — Thailand
British POWs on the Thai-Burma Railway explore contrasting responses to captivity — stoic endurance, violent resistance, and collaboration — through the experiences of Scottish officers from different backgrounds.
Kanchanaburi, site of the famous 'Bridge on the River Kwai', was the hub of the Thai-Burma Railway's POW camp network. Allied POWs held there included British, Australian, Dutch and American troops. The film, based on Ernest Gordon's memoir 'Miracle on the River Kwai', contrasts the Christian pacifism of Gordon's approach with other survivors' responses to extreme brutality.
