Hohenwerfen Castle in Austria served as the primary filming location. Alpine fortresses like this were used by the SS as headquarters, prison camps, and intelligence centres throughout the war. Many mountain redoubt myths fuelled Allied fears of a last Nazi stronghold in the Alps.
