The Bielski brothers escape the Novogrudok Ghetto and begin organising a partisan group in the forests.
Of the 7,000 Jews of Novogrudok, only 900 survived to escape into the forest. The Einsatzgruppen conducted mass shootings of 5,000 Jews in December 1941 alone. The brothers' escape in September 1943 came through a 250-metre tunnel dug beneath the ghetto fence — one of the most remarkable prison escapes of the war.
