February 27-28 1943 — nine Norwegian commandos sabotage the Norsk Hydro plant in one of the most successful special operations of the war.
Operation Gunnerside destroyed 500kg of heavy water — five months of production — without a single casualty on either side. British intelligence had calculated that Germany needed the heavy water for potential nuclear reactor development. The film compresses multiple operations: the earlier Freshman glider disaster (killing 41 men) and the Gunnerside success.
