Patton — Germany
Patton's 3rd Army crosses the Rhine at Oppenheim on March 22, 1945 — beating Montgomery's massive set-piece crossing by a day.
Patton deliberately kept his Rhine crossing secret from SHAEF so Montgomery couldn't claim to be first. When Eisenhower learned 3rd Army was across, Patton reportedly said: 'Don't tell anyone but I've just pissed in the Rhine.' He then called his father to report the event.
